A Bengaluru community bonded by their shared passion for food is bringing together like-minded individuals through shared meals, forming lasting friendships. The Dastarkhwan Club, a food community in the city, regularly organizes vibrant meet-ups where members explore local dining options and connect on a deeper level beyond just food. Co-founder Akash Devaraju emphasizes that this connection is a mix of various interests united by a love for food. Tharini Thakur highlights the group's diverse members who are eager to learn about the origins of different cuisines and the cultural influences behind them. The group has grown significantly, attracting over 60 members in their WhatsApp group and 600 RSVPs for their events. According to Akash, the special bond created through sharing a meal is unparalleled, with the idea for the club originating from a memorable Iftaar meal with friends. The group's name, Dastarkhwan, was inspired by a colleague during one of their outings. Member Abhishek Gupta appreciates the personal and enriching experiences the club offers, describing it as a delightful journey that allows members to taste history through food."Visiting someone from Kashmir in their home provided valuable insights into their culture and way of life," he shares. Meghna also appreciates the unique and well-curated events, where individuals from specific cultures are present to explain traditions. Community dining experiences include Rozana, where restaurant owners share culinary history, Safarnama food walks exploring different cuisines, and Mehfil where people share their culture by welcoming guests into their homes.
